June gives you the longest days of the year, and on an island whose main event is a sunset that matters more than it sounds. Light arrives early and leaves very late, which stretches a Santorini day at both ends and hollows out the middle. The middle of the day is the problem, and the boat is the answer
Six or seven hours of a June day are too bright and too crowded for the cliff, which is exactly when the caldera is best seen from underneath it. Why the late evening is the month's real gift
Because darkness comes so late, June gives you a second usable half to the day that the shoulder months do not. That argues for where you sleep as much as when you come.
