Everything on Mykonos is open in June and not yet fully spoken for. That is the month's real argument, and it is a practical one rather than a meteorological one: this is the last stretch of the season in which a table, a sunbed, a hire car or a seat on a boat can still be had a day or two out. From July that stops being true, and a Mykonos holiday turns into a logistics exercise.
The month in one word: available
Seasonal businesses here open in stages through spring, and by the start of June the staggering is finished — the bays are staffed, the boats are running daily, the town is fully awake after dark. Arrivals, meanwhile, build week by week rather than arriving all at once, so the first half of the month in particular gives you a fully functioning island operating well below its capacity.
Water is warm enough to swim properly and getting warmer, though the year's peak is still some way ahead. Days are at their longest. Rates climb steadily from the first week to the last without reaching what August asks.

The wind, honestly
Summer in the Cyclades comes with a persistent northerly, and it is worth understanding rather than fearing. June generally sees it lighter and less relentless than the high-summer months, which is part of why boat days are more reliable now — but it can blow hard in any month, and when it does the exposed northern bays become unpleasant and some sailings do not go. Plan a boat day with an alternative date beside it, in June as in any month here.
What June does not give you
Not the warmest water of the year, which arrives later. Not an empty island either, at least in the second half — the last week of June already feels like the season proper. And not the cheapest rates, which belong to the very start and very end of the season.
What it gives instead is the fully assembled version of this place with slack still in it, which is a rarer combination than it sounds.
Who should take a different month
Anyone whose priority is swimming above all else should look at September, when the sea is at its most forgiving and the island has emptied out. Anyone who wants the town quiet and the interior green should come earlier in spring and accept that half the coast is not yet running. And anyone travelling for the island's louder reputation is arriving a little early — that machine reaches full volume after June, which for most readers of this page is a recommendation rather than a warning.
